Diversity and mentoring resources from the National Center for Cultural Competence Exit Disclaimer
The Division of MCH Workforce Development, in collaboration with the National Center for Cultural Competence (NCCC) has developed the following resources:

  • Cultural and Linguistic Competence Checklists for MCH Training Programs
  • Curricula Enhancement Modules
Assist faculty in incorporating five key content areas into existing curricula that are important to cultural and linguistic competence in public health, Provide a set of defined areas of knowledge, skills, and awareness related to each core content area., Offer relevant materials, articles, publications, and other multimedia resources for each core content area, and Provide faculty with instructional and self-discovery strategies.
  • Rationale for Cultural Linguistic Competence in MCH Training Programs
This rationale supports why it is critical for MCH leadership training programs to focus on cultural and linguistic competency as part of their curriculum.
  • Cross Cultural Health Care Studies
This interactive, engaging learning module includes core concepts of, and four cross cultural health care case studies, each accompanied by a lecture and learning activities. The purpose of these case studies is to familiarize the learner with the many issues that may arise while working in a pediatric setting with people from different cultures. The first lesson provides core concepts of cultural competence including health beliefs, social factors and self-awareness of the health care provider that are central to providing culturally competent care. Each case study involves a family from a different culture and focuses on more specific issues of working with culturally diverse families.
