PLACE OF PHYSICIAN CONTACT
Regardless of age or family income, most children with a usual
source of health care received care at either a physician’s
office or an HMO in 2002. Across all age groups, 31.4 percent of
children living in poverty used a clinic or health center as their
usual source of acute care, compared to 15.4 percent of children
not living in poverty. Children with family incomes above poverty
were less likely to obtain care at a hospital emergency department
than children in poverty.
