Discharge Rates Among Children Aged 1-14, by Selected Diagnosis: 1990-2005
Overall, the rate of discharges due to diseases of the respiratory system has declined over this time period with a high of around 100 discharges per 10,000 children in 1991 to 70 discharges per 10,000 in 2005. Discharges from hospitalizations due to injury have declined as well, but not as dramatically, from around 37 per 10,000 in 1990 to 26 per 10,000 in 2005. Discharges from diseases of the digestive system declined from 1990 to 1997, then increased to 31 per 10,000 by 2005, resulting in only a slight decrease since 1990 overall. Hospital discharges per 10,000 children in 2005 were:
- Diseases of the respiratory system: 70.0
- Diseases of the digestive system: 31.0
- Injury: 26.0
