HOSPITAL DISCHARGE TRENDS
Since 1985, there has been a 38 percent decrease
in overall hospital discharge rates for children aged
1-14 years.
Between 1985 and 2000, there was a 44 percent decline
in the hospital discharge rate for diseases of the
respiratory system in children in this age group.
Three diagnostic categories (respiratory diseases,
injury, and digestive diseases) accounted for 45 percent
of the discharges of children aged 1-14 years in 2000.
