Young Adult AIDS Cases by Gender and Exposure Category for Ages for 20-24: 1981-2000

Between 1981-2000, 27,232 AIDS cases were reported among young adults aged 20-24, 19,499 in males and 7,733 in females. Among males, the leading exposure categories were men having sex with men (14,016 cases), injecting drug use (2,353) and risk not identified (1,387). Among females, the leading categories were heterosexual contact (4,233) and injecting drug use (2,015).
