Between 1981-2000, 4,061 AIDS cases were reported among adolescents aged 13-19, 2,366 in males and 1,695 in females. Among males, the leading exposure categories were men having sex with men (926 cases), receipt of blood or blood products (851) and risk not identified (334). Among females, the leading categories were heterosexual contact (877) and risk not identified (480).
