Between 1981-2000, 5,536 cases of HIV infection were reported among adolescents aged 13-19, 2,388 among males and 3,148 among females. Among males, 1,442 cases were among blacks, 814 were whites, 150 were Hispanics, 17 were American Indians, and 9 were Asian/Pacific Islanders. Among the females, 2,30 were black, 628 were white, 322 were Hispanic, 38 were American Indian, and 16 were Asian/Pacific Islanders.
