For all racial/ethnic groups, the leading source of exposure to pediatric AIDS is perinatal transmission, followed by receipt of blood or blood components. There were a total of 1,548 reported cases among whites, 5,231 cases among blacks, 2,032 cases among Hispanics, 51 cases among Asian/Pacific Islanders, and 31 cases among American Indians reported between 1981 and 2000.
