In 2000, the percentage of black women who breastfeed their babies in the hospital was 50.8%; white women, 71.5%; and Hispanic women, 70.8% (compared to the national target of 75%). The percentage who breastfeed at six months was 20.6% of blacks, 33.% of whites, and 27.7% of Hispanics, compared to the target of 50%.
